How Rental Order Pickup and Return Works in Odoo 18 (Enterprise)

Managing rentals involves two critical stages: Pickup (Delivery) and Return. In Odoo 18 Enterprise Rental Module, both processes are tightly integrated with inventory, ensuring accurate tracking and billing.

Let’s walk through the complete workflow.

Overview of Rental Flow
  * Create Rental Order
  * Confirm Order
  * Pickup (Delivery Order)
  * Rental in Progress
  * Return (Return Order)
  * Invoicing & Completion

Step 1: Navigate to Rental Products

  * Go to Rental Module > Products.
  * View the list of existing products or click Create to add a new product.
  * Enter the Product Name.
  * Choose Product Type and enable the Rental checkbox.

   * Save the product.

To add rental pricing:
  * Click Add a Price.
 Specify the following details:
  * Period – Select the rental duration (Hour, Day, Week, Month, etc.).
  * Pricelist – Choose the pricelist that the pricing rule applies to.
  * Price – Enter the rental amount for the selected period.

 Step 2: Create Rental Order
  * Go to Rental → Orders → Create
  * Add:
      * Customer
      * Rental Product
  * Rental Period   * Click Confirm 

Step 3 : Generate an Invoice
  * Open the confirmed rental order.
  * Click Create Invoice.
  * Select the preferred invoicing option, if prompted.
  * Click Create and View Invoice.
  * Review the invoice details, including the customer, rental product, rental                period,  quantity and total amount.
  * Click Confirm to post the invoice.

 Step 4: Process Pickup (Delivery Order)
  * Click Pick Up Button

* Click ValidateNow:
  * Status → Picked-up

Step 5: Initiate Return
   * When the customer returns the product:
   * Open the same Rental Order
   * Click Return button

  * This creates a Return Transfer

Step 6: Validate Return
  * Open Return Order
  * Check returned quantity & condition
  * Click ValidateNow:
  * Product comes back to inventory
  * Rental status → Returned
