How to Set Sales Credit Limits for Partners in Odoo 18 Enterprise

Managing customer credit is very important for every business. In Odoo 18 Enterprise, you can control how much credit a customer can use before making payment. This helps avoid financial risk and improves cash flow management.

What is a Partner Credit Limit?

Partner Credit Limit is the maximum credit amount you allow for a customer (partner).

What is the Sales Credit Limit?
Sales Credit Limit is the control mechanism used in the Sales module.
It works together with the Partner Credit Limit to:
  * Restrict Sales Order Confirmation
  * Show credit warning messages
  * Prevent risky sales transactions

This feature ensures that the system automatically shows warning for the sales team from confirming orders if the customer exceeds their approved credit limit.

Go to:
  * Accounting → Configuration → Settings

Enable:
* Credit Management / Credit Limit Option

  * Accounting Module → Customer → Accounting Tab
  * Click Partner Credit limit check box enable 

How it Works:
  * You set a credit limit amount (Example: $100)
  * When the customer creates Sales Orders or Invoices,
  * Odoo checks:
        * Total unpaid invoices
        * Draft invoices (if configured)
        * Confirmed sales orders

  * If the total outstanding amount exceeds the limit:
  * Odoo shows a warning
  * Or blocks confirmation (based on configuration)

Example:

  * Unpaid Invoice: $80,000

➡ Total = $1,10,000
  * If the limit is exceeded, a warning message will be displayed.
